What exactly is Microgrid?

A Mycrogrid® is a complete residential energy platform that intelligently integrates solar, battery storage, and Mycroguard™ into a single system. It produces, stores, and controls your energy where it's used—at your home—so the utility becomes backup to your grid, not the other way around.

How is that different from just getting solar panels?

Traditional solar generates electricity. A Mycrogrid® generates, stores, monitors, and controls it. Instead of sending your most valuable energy back to the utility, your Mycrogrid® is designed to keep more of it at home — where it delivers the greatest value.

Will I still be connected to the utility?

Today, most Mycrogrid® homeowners remain connected to the utility, using it as a reliable backup while their home produces, stores, and controls the majority of its own energy. But that's only the beginning. As battery technology advances and storage capacity continues to grow over the coming years, every Mycrogrid® is designed to move closer to the ultimate objective: a home that no longer depends on the utility as its primary source of power. We call that journey "cutting the cord."

What happens during a blackout?

When the utility loses power, your Mycrogrid® automatically powers the load circuits designed to remain operational. Because every home is different, your backup strategy is custom engineered during the design process.

Why do you say the old solar deal is gone?

For years, rooftop solar was designed around exporting electricity to the utility in exchange for favorable credits that benefitted the homeowner who invested in solar-only. As those programs changed, the better economics shifted toward producing, storing, and using more of your own energy in your home. That's the model Mycrogrid® advanced. This is what Mycrogrid® was built for.

Do I need the utility's permission? How long until my system is on?

No utility permission is required. Unlike conventional grid-tied solar, a Mycrogrid® is designed not to export power to the utility grid. That means there is no utility interconnection application and no waiting for utility approval or permission to operate. We obtain only the required local municipal or county permits, complete the inspections, and commission your Mycrogrid®.

What is Mycroguard™?

Mycroguard™ is the intelligence behind every Mycrogrid®. It continuously monitors your system, provides remote diagnostics, helps coordinate service when needed, and gives you complete visibility into your home's energy — all through one integrated platform which you can view on the Mycrogrid® app.

How do people pay for a system now that the tax credit is over?

Every homeowner's financial situation is different. Some choose cash, others use financing, and qualified homeowners often use a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) to invest in a Mycrogrid®. During your consultation, we'll help you compare the available options and design a solution that fits both your home and your financial goals.

I've been a customer since before the Mycrogrid® name. What happens to my warranty and service?

If you've been with us since before the Mycrogrid® name, your next chapter begins with a new level of protection. When you upgrade to a battery-integrated Mycrogrid®, your new installation includes a new one-year fit-and-finish warranty, and every qualifying upgrade includes 15 years of Mycroguard™ monitoring at no additional cost. The name and technology have evolved, and your home's protection has been reset for the next generation of residential energy.

My solar company went out of business — SunPower, Sunnova. Did my warranties disappear?

Not necessarily. While an installer's workmanship warranty (fit and finish) may no longer be available if the company has ceased operations, many manufacturer warranties remain in effect covering the equipment that exists in and one your home. During your consultation, we'll evaluate your existing equipment, determine what warranty coverage is still available, and recommend the best path forward. In many cases, we can integrate your existing system into a new Mycrogrid® and provide ongoing monitoring through Mycroguard®.

Where do you work, and where are you located?

Mycrogrid® is headquartered in Palm Desert, California, where our founder has been engineering and installing residential energy systems since 2006. We proudly serve homeowners throughout the Coachella Valley and the Southwestern United States. If you're near our Cook Street headquarters, stop by — we'd be happy to meet you, show you what we're building, and even hand you a complimentary copy of "Cut the Cord".

How do I get started?

It begins with a conversation — not a sales presentation. Schedule an in-person consultation with one of our commission-free Design Consultants, and we'll evaluate your home, your energy goals, and whether a Mycrogrid® is the right fit. If it is, we'll engineer a custom energy plan designed around your home. If it isn't, we'll tell you.

Why do you call it a Mycrogrid® instead of a solar system?

Because a Mycrogrid® is far more than solar panels. It's an intelligently integrated energy platform that combines solar generation, battery storage, Mycroguard™ monitoring, and advanced controls into one coordinated system designed to produce, store, and control your home's energy.

Why doesn't Mycrogrid® require utility permission?

Because a Mycrogrid® is designed to operate independently of the utility grid. It is YOUR grid. Unlike conventional grid-tied solar systems that export electricity and require utility interconnection approval, a Mycrogrid® does not export power to the utility. That means there is no utility permission-to-operate process. We obtain only the required local municipal or county building and electrical permits before commissioning your system.
